Skins fans may be reuniting with a familiar character sooner than they think. Though plans are in motion to follow the storylines of the troubled teens from the BAFTA-winning drama’s first four series in an upcoming feature film, Brian Elsley, creator and executive producer of the program, has announced plans to reintroduce the spacey blonde known as Cassie Ainsworth back into the show, currently on it’s fifth series and committed to a sixth.

“Cassie was great, and there was a lot of territory I feel we didn’t really get to explore with her,” Elsley explains, “and we’re really looking forward to seeing what happens to her next. Did Sid manage to find her in New York? Has she emerged victorious from the battle with her many emotional and psychological demons?”

The show’s producers did hit a rather large bump in the road when Hannah Murray, the vibrant young actress responsible for bringing Cassie’s character to life on the small screen, declined the offer to return to the show. It seems, however, that this particular obstacle has been overcome.

“It was rather disappointing when Hannah said no, she was absolutely wonderful to work with,” says Elsley, “But we’ve found a new talent who bears an uncanny resemblance to her and we’re putting all of our faith in him. It’s a risky move but we’re willing to try anything, really.”

Not much information was released about Murray’s replacement, a relatively unknown individual named Josh Macedo from Oakville, Ontario. The fifth series of Skins wrapped up in March, and fans will have to wait until the sixth series begins production to see if the transition sticks.
